OFFSET is a series of sustainable, sculptural stools designed by Natural Material Studio. The stools consist of biodegradable madress foam, B-Foam, and Dinesen Douglas fir offcut. The series was launched at New York Design week the 12th – 18th of November, 2021, with the design gallery, Adorno.

The series of stools is developed together with furniture designer Sofia Witterslev from the principle of offsets, where the same dimensions are replicated and moved, which has created a lively and ukurant expression of changing the look within the same frame. The offset changes in the construction is meant to compliment the variating and unique charater of the foam texture. Founder and designer, Bonnie Hvillum, explains:

”The vision with OFFSET was to create a functional furniture that in a sculptural and contemporary way could highlight the aesthetic and performance of our foam material, B-Foam.”

The series was launched during New York Design Week, the 12th – 18th of November, at the virtual showroom facilitated by Danish design gallery, Adorno.

The B-foam that is used as the seat in the stools, consists of a foaming technology with a protein based bio-polymer, all developed by the studio. To create a washable and durable surface, the studio has incoorporated beeswax into the foam that creates an outer barrier on the foam. This makes it possible to expose and use the foam both as a padding and lining at the same time. It is also possible to incorporate natural pigments for other colour variations. The foam biodegrades within 3 months when exposed to soil, compost or heat and water in combination. The latter makes it possible to reuse and recast the material, and thereby create a closed loop systems.

The OFFSET stools comes in three variant constructions, #01, #02, #03, and in either white washed or ash pigmented wood. All foam seats and wood are hand made to order. Delivery time approximately 4 weeks.
