Renowned for their deep understanding of natural resources and an unwavering commitment to sustainable production, Natural Material Studio presents a suite of designs that transform years of development and exploration of biomaterials—as architecture, artwork, and material—into living objects.
Countless iterations have been distilled into simple, functional pieces or systems that effortlessly integrate, and induce atmosphere. These distinctive expressions of Natural Material Studio transform and shape a space into a living environment. They represent a balance of structure and freedom, non-figurative yet concrete, minimalist with honest details. It is about connecting the individual with the senses, heightening our awareness of the world around us.
Minimal furniture and light sculptures that are seamless and sensuous, based on repetition of form, made in vivid, studio-made materials that make every single piece singular, one-of-a-kind. The works embody a deliberate contrast between rigid frameworks and the organic, almost unpredictable qualities of natural materials. All are biodegradable, and naturally, structurally sound.
The works are the result of a journey of experimentation and refinement, each piece representing a nuanced conversation with its medium. An attempt to define a new direction, perhaps even a novel design tradition. This, in turn, informs the expression of each piece. Each is an invitation—to reconsider the objects we surround ourselves with, to touch, to move, to live with these objects in ways that inspire a meaningful connection to the world.
Collaborating with architects, private clients, brands, cultural institutions, universities and research groups, the studio focuses on new possibilities within the convergence of material science, artistic ingenuity and spatial design.
Notable clients and collaborators include Restaurant Noma, Snøhetta, Frama, Gehl Architects, Office Kim Lenschow, Dinesen, Adidas, Calvin Klein, Typology, and Leeds University.
